Underwater photographer since 1984, Francesco Turano dedicates his life to the sea, with a predilection for the Mediterranean, writing, photographing, studying and drawing in order to spread awareness for the protection of the sea in general and the Mediterranean in particular. In the nineties, he began to publish his images, collaborating with magazines such as Oasis, Bell’Italia, Aqua and many others.
In 1999 his first book was published: “Viaggio in fondo allo Stretto”, and subsequently the volume “Sott’acqua in Mediterraneo”, the result of years of work as an underwater photographer in the Mare Nostrum and in the Strait of Messina in particular; it was then the turn of the work “Enciclopedia Illustrata degli Invertebrati Marini”, created with his friend Francesco Costa and then of the great photographic book “Calabria, Mediterraneo sconosciuto”.
A naturalist illustrator and author of numerous publications, Turano dedicates more than 200 hours a year to the direct observation of the marine fauna of the Mediterranean and in 25 years of activity he has created an archive with over 100,000 underwater images to disseminate and protect the biodiversity of the sea.
